  1. The following update was sent at 11 am, Friday, January 27.

    OHIO and Athens community,

The purpose of this message is to update you on the reported presence of a possibly armed and dangerous individual near the Ohio University campus. As of 8:30 AM on January 27th, we believe any threat to the campus and community has passed.

On Thursday evening, January 26th, at approximately 6:10 PM, OUPD received credible information that Billy J. Caudill, was reportedly in the vicinity of Union and Shafer Streets; however, he was not located by police.

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant Wednesday for Caudill, 43, in connection with a robbery at a Peoples Bank in Carroll, Ohio.

Information available to us suggested that Caudill might be armed and should be considered dangerous.

OUPD and the Athens Police Department (APD) brought in additional personnel and vehicles and searched the area for several hours, to include a search of the Hockhocking Adena bikeway from Athens to Nelsonville. In addition, OUPD and APD answered dozens of calls from concerned citizens. Caudill was not located and this morning we have received additional information indicating he is most likely no longer in the Athens area.

Billy J. Caudill is 5 feet 7 inches, weighs 195 pounds, has hazel eyes and is believed to be clean shaven with a shaved head. You can view a photograph of him here: http://ohne.ws/yI9c2z . If have information on Caudill, we urge you to contact Athens or OU police or call 911.
